The Metro Nashville Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances leading to the death of Cyprien Argueta Romero, a six-year-old boy who was fatally shot. As per information from WSMV, the child was brought to Southern Hills Medical Center by his parents last Friday afternoon, following the incident that happened while the family was engaged in yard work, and the child was playing with his brother in the Paragon Mills area.

Initial details about the incident are sparse as "the parents have been reticent to go into detail about what happened," according to the Metro police, as cited by WSMV. There have been conflicting reports about the location of the shooting, with some sources indicating it could have occurred outside Davidson County, an area outside the jurisdiction of the Metro police, yet the specific site remains unknown.

A new development in the case occurred this morning with the arrest of Karen Argueta, the boy’s mother. The arrest came after a stolen semiautomatic rifle with a loaded magazine and nearly seven grams of methamphetamine were found in her vehicle at the hospital. As reported by WKRN, she was booked on charges of felony firearm theft and felony methamphetamine possession after she had allegedly admitted to taking methamphetamine recently and claimed the drugs found belonged to her.

Even though the investigation is still unfolding, no current evidence suggests the involvement of someone outside the family. "Detectives are taking a number of investigative steps to flesh out what exactly occurred," the Metro police stated. The Youth Services division, along with the Homicide Unit, were reportedly working together to get to the bottom of the case, as per FOX17.
