A New Orleans man has pleaded guilty to violating the Federal Gun Control Act. Kenneth Jackson, 33, entered his plea before U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo on Wednesday, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson.
As per the U.S. Attorney's Office release, Jackson, a convicted felon prohibited from owning firearms, was found in possession of a .45 caliber pistol following an FBI investigation connected to a recent murder. Court records show that FBI agents were monitoring a Toyota Camry believed to be linked to the crime when they saw Jackson and another man attempting to leave an apartment complex in New Orleans East. Agents intervened and took Jackson into custody.
Jackson is scheduled for sentencing on January 30, 2026. He faces up to 15 years in prison, fines, and a term of supervised release.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a nationwide program focused on reducing violent crime. The investigation was conducted by the FBI, the New Orleans Police Department, and the New Orleans District Attorney’s Office. Prosecution is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Liz Privitera and Sarah Dawkins.
