Floyd Jones, 38, of New Orleans, was sentenced to 80 months in federal prison for each of three counts of drug distribution and firearms offenses, to be served concurrently. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson on Tuesday, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Jones was convicted of distributing methamphetamine and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. He was arrested on October 3, 2024, after investigations into narcotics and firearm trafficking. Court records state that on July 15 and August 22, 2024, he distributed more than 50 grams of methamphetamine and sold a loaded 9mm pistol illegally. His sentence includes four years of supervised release and a $300 mandatory special assessment fee, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

The case against Jones is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a nationwide program launched in 2021 to reduce violent crime through cooperation between law enforcement and communities. The initiative focuses on building trust, supporting community organizations, targeted enforcement, and evaluating anti-violence efforts. Jones’ conviction involved work by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the New Orleans Police Department, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy Bell of the Violent Crime Unit, as stated by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
