New York Attorney General Letitia James' office released a detailed report on the tragic deaths of Sergeant Watson Morgan and his family, concluding that the Bronxville Police Department officer was solely responsible for the fatal incident that occurred on December 30, 2023. The extensive investigation, spearheaded by the Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation (OSI), ruled out the possibility of prosecuting anyone else in connection with the deaths following analysis of various pieces of evidence.
The OSI's conclusions were presented after reviewing physical and forensic evidence, which included ballistics and DNA. Clarkstown Police Department officers, prompted by a welfare check initiated by a concerned BPD Lieutenant, discovered the grim scene at Sergeant Morgan's home shortly after midnight. The report established that there was no sign of forced entry and the collected evidence pointed unequivocally to Sergeant Morgan as the individual who fired the weapon that ended the lives of himself, his wife, and their two sons.
Amid the community's grief, the OSI's findings have offered a bleak resolution to a case that unsettled the New City area of Rockland County. The New York State Attorney General's report details that officers at the scene found the house's lights on and the windows veiled with closed blinds. The deceased bodies of the Morgan family and the recovery of a pistol registered in Sergeant Watson Morgan's name. "Ballistic evidence was consistent with Sergeant Morgan’s pistol, and DNA evidence confirmed Sergeant Morgan’s DNA on the pistol," the OSI report stated, closing the case on any further speculation of outside involvement.
With the completion of the investigation and the release of this report, the OSI emphasizes that its meticulous review of the evidence affirms their final assessments. There are, therefore, no grounds to seek charges against any living person tied to the Morgan family's demise.
