As the Utah Utes gear up for their upcoming face-off at UCLA on August 30, attention has turned to the fresh talent shaping the roster, including wide receiver Tobias Merriweather. This new addition to the squad is making waves in Fall camp with his consistency and play-making abilities. Merriweather, previously with California and Notre Dame, carries 24 games under his belt into Salt Lake City, sharing his experiences from his last five-game stretch with Cal in 2024, according to UtahUtes.com.

In a recent touch base, Merriweather expressed optimism about the ongoing camp. "I think in a short period of time, it's been good so far. I think I've been able to be pretty consistent and make some plays each day. It's been good so far and I'm loving it," he told UtahUtes.com. With his eyes on the prize, Merriweather's goals are clear-cut: trust the process and sweat the small stuff.

Tobias didn't hold back praise for the coaching staff, either. Speaking of head coach Kyle Whittingham, he remarked, "Coach Whitt is a winner. He is tough, smart and loves to win. I love that about him." When it comes to the guidance of wide receivers coach Chad Simon, Merriweather seems equally impressed: "Coach Simon is a great coach. I love that he's younger. He understands the nuances of the game. And he isn't too far removed from (playing) the game, so he understands things that will help us get open," he shared in the interview, as per UtahUtes.com.

Merriweather's previous experience in high school track & field still plays a part in his football mindset. "In track, you can't rely on anyone else during competition. Sometimes that's what it comes down to playing receiver. Sometimes it might be a bad ball, but you've got to go win the race and make the play. That's what I take away from track," he told UtahUtes.com.

Apart from athletics, Merriweather finds inspiration from his sisters, citing them as exemplars of the values he strives for. "They are still role models for me. The way they go about their lives; they are so loving and are God-fearing women. When they were running in high school, I was looking up to them and thinking that I wanted to be just like them. I was able to make it happen my senior year and be a state champion just like them. They really pushed me to be great, and focus on the process," Merriweather elaborated, as obtained by UtahUtes.com.
