On Saturday, nearly 150 people came together at the Tryonota Volunteer Fire Department to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Tryon Resolves, a significant precursor to the Declaration of Independence. The event was festooned with the presence of members from various Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution chapters, along with North Carolina State Directors for each organization.
Elected officials also marked their presence, with U.S. Rep. Tim Moore, State Reps. John Torbett, and Kelly Hastings attending among others. According to a report on Gaston County's official website, attendees witnessed a reenactment of the debate that led to the Tryon Resolves on August 14, 1775. The ceremony also featured a poignant musket volley near the historic marker outside the Tryonota VFD, tying past to present with an echo of revolution.
