A tragic incident unfolded at Keoneloa Bay, also known as Shipwreck Beach, where a 39-year-old North Carolina man lost his life after jumping off a cliff into the ocean. As reported by the County of Kaua‘i's official press release, Jerome Hill was swimming on Thursday when he quickly got into trouble in the water.

The call for help went out around 6:30 p.m. on August 21, and rescue efforts swiftly commenced to try to ultimately save Hill's life. Courageous bystanders did not hesitate to swim out and bring him back to shore, where CPR was first administered. Despite these attempts, and even after the arrival and advanced efforts of the Kaua‘i Fire Department and American Medical Response, Hill's condition worsened.

He was immediately transported in critical condition to Wilcox Medical Center. Hill's fight for life ended there as he was later pronounced dead. The cause of death still remains uncertain with an autopsy pending, and authorities have ruled out foul play at this stage.

The Kaua‘i Police Department has issued a statement sharing their deepest sympathies with the bereaved family, saying, "The Kaua‘i Police Department extends its condolences to the family and loved ones of Jerome Hill during this difficult time," as mentioned on the Kauai County release.
