A man was hospitalized and now finds himself in stable condition following an officer-involved shooting in Flatbush, Brooklyn, during which NYPD officers interrupted an apparent gunfight, as reported by Gothamist. The incident, which took place around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, resulted in 22-year-old Edynesson Bauduy getting shot by officers after he was witnessed engaging in a shootout with another individual who fled the scene. According to NYPD Assistant Chief Frank Giordano, officers "bravely and immediately confronted a dangerous situation," and the officers' body-worn camera footage of the ordeal is currently under review by the NYPD’s Force Investigation Division.
The officers on patrol from the 70th Precinct, having heard gunshots near Ocean and Church avenues, saw the shooting in progress and responded by exiting their vehicle and discharging their weapons at Bauduy, who is identified as a "two-time convicted violent felon" by the NYPD in a statement obtained by Gothamist, and the police relayed the officers were later taken to a hospital for evaluation subsequent to the shooting event. Bauduy was previously convicted for assault and robbery, released from state prison two months prior; the parole period extending to 2030, and this man has a history stringing back to his arrest at 18 after a previous shooting incident and, while awaiting trial for that case, he became implicated in another violent robbery.
Officers on the scene administered CPR before Bauduy was transported to Kings County Hospital, confirmed by ABC 7 New York, and upon a search at the locus of the incident, a 9mm handgun was retrieved along with multiple shell casings. No charges against Bauduy relating to this specific exchange of gunfire have been publicly disclosed as of yet, and attorney information for him was not immediately available following the encounter.
Meanwhile, NYPD officials, in addition to grappling with the fallout from the shooting, are actively searching for the second gunman who managed to elude capture at the time of the Flatbush conflict and the search for this individual, who somehow disappeared in the aftermath of the gunfire while officers focused on the suspect they shot and injured, is ongoing according to ABC 7 New York. The department is urging anyone with information regarding the second shooter's whereabouts to come forward as part of their continuing investigation.
