The perpetrator is said to have emerged from a dark-colored SUV before committing the brazen theft and promptly fleeing the scene in the same vehicle. The suspect's vehicle was last seen heading east on 60th Street. The NYPD has taken to social media in an effort to quickly gather any leads. In their social media outreach, NYPD Crimestoppers described the situation: "an 85-year-old male victim was standing in the vicinity of Third Avenue and 60th Street, confines of the 72 Precinct, when an unidentified individual exited an unidentified dark-colored SUV and approached him." The post further recounted how the individual "then removed the victim’s chain from his neck" and "then fled in the unidentified dark-colored SUV, traveling eastbound on 60th Street to parts unknown." This narrative portrays a cold and calculated theft, targeting a senior member of the community.
