Oʻahu drivers should prepare to adjust their nighttime travel plans as the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced upcoming closures for joint repair work on the H-2 Freeway. The right lane of the Wahiawā-bound H-2, stretching from the Mililani Town on-ramp to the Waikalani Drive overpass, is set to close nightly, starting Tuesday from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., according to HDOT. Motorists will need to adapt their nighttime commutes, taking note that work is anticipated to span two weeks.
Ramps leading onto the freeway will stay open during the construction period, offering some relief for local traffic flow. HDOT urges drivers "to proceed with caution and obey all work signs throughout the work area." Adjustments to usual routes should be expected, though not necessarily a complete interruption for those commuting in the area.
To aid in managing the flow of traffic and safety around the construction zone, special duty police officers will be on-site. HDOT also plans to strategically place electronic message boards to keep motorists informed on closure information. The department reminds drivers that the roadwork is subject to weather conditions and may be rescheduled as necessary. Vehicle operators are encouraged to keep up-to-date on any changes and to also be prepared to potentially adjust their normal routes.
