Oakley witnessed a jolting incident yesterday morning as police responded to a shooting on Trenton Street. Around 3:13 AM, area residents reported hearing gunshots and observed a suspect fleeing in a dark-colored Ford F150. Oakley Police, arriving quickly on the scene, found a man shot multiple times in front of a residence. According to an official statement released by the Oakley Police Department, the victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was rushed to a trauma center for life-saving treatment.
The chase for the alleged shooter didn't take long to unfold. A Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office deputy spotted a vehicle fitting the suspect's description in Knightsen and pursued it with backup arriving. Initial compliance by the suspect at a traffic stop soon escalated into a chase, as the vehicle tore through Brentwood and onto Deer Valley Road toward Antioch. "The Antioch Police Department assisted us by setting up spike strips," said Oakley Police Chief Beard, "The suspect vehicle became disabled by the spikes and the driver was taken into custody." The smooth coordination between multiple law enforcement agencies led to the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Tanginoa Tangi of Hayward, being booked for several felonies, including attempted murder.
Chief Beard pointed out the crucial collaboration between community members and law enforcement, leading to Tangi's arrest. The Oakley Police are further appealing to the community for assistance, requesting any home surveillance videos that could help piece together the suspect's movements before and after the 3:13 AM shooting.
