Ogden City is set to pay tribute to a local hero, fallen Officer Nathan James Lyday, by naming a new field house after him. The dedication of the Nathan J. Lyday Field House will take place inside the revitalized Marshall N. White Community Center, marking a gesture of remembrance and community spirit. The formal dedication ceremony is scheduled for August 14 at 4 p.m., and the public is warmly encouraged to attend this momentous event.
According to Ogden City, the field house will serve as a dynamic space where youth can engage in sports, embodying the values Officer Lyday lived by: teamwork, persistence, and leadership. "Officer Nathan Lyday grew up in this community, chose to serve it, and ultimately gave his life protecting it," Mayor Ben Nadolski said, noting the dedication is a reflection of Lyday's passion for soccer, community, and fostering a place where the young can prosper and embrace the strengths of Ogden.
The dedication event will feature presentations by the Ogden City Police Department Honor Guard and remarks from various dignitaries, including Mayor Nadolski, Council Member Marcia White, Police Chief Jake Sube, and Lyday's family members. The finale will be marked by a ribbon cutting, signifying the opening of the field house for community use.
The remembrance extends into the evening with Ogden's annual Night Out Against Crime occurring immediately after the dedication, from 5 to 7 p.m. This community-centric event is aimed at connecting law enforcement with residents to cultivate safer and more cohesive communities. Chief Sube is excited to "bring community partners, citizens, and officers together," particularly during an event interfusing the celebration of Officer Lyday's service and the public dedication of the new recreation space.
