"Ohio truly is the Heart of Adventure, and we want everyone to have a first-class experience when visiting one of our state parks," Ohio Governor Mike DeWine stated during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The park, known for its hiking trails and the Mohican State Scenic River, sees an influx of visitors annually. The new visitor center is anticipated to enhance these guests' experiences, providing an introduction to the area's natural history. Alongside, Mohican State Park continues to offer its storied lodge and rich fishing grounds, retaining its status as one of Ohio's outdoor jewels.
At 5,205 square feet, the new building presents a range of amenities. "This new visitor center serves as both a gateway and a gathering place, helping guests discover the natural wonders of the park while offering comfort, accessibility, and education," said Director Mertz via Ohio Governor Mike DeWine office. Components such as an expansive central exhibit hall, dedicated wings for ancillary services like restrooms and retail, and an interactive zone for children outline the visitor center's comprehensive approach to hospitality.
The architectural design is as thoughtful as it is accessible; a gently-sloped entrance ramp leads visitors from the campground and main parking area into the warm embrace of an indoor fireplace and seating area, ensuring ease of access for guests of diverse abilities. With off-hours availability of restrooms and drinking fountains via a secure vestibule, the visitor center is not just a daytime destination for park goers.
Mohican State Park Manager Jenny Roar emphasized the center's role in enriching the visitor experience.
