Oklahoma City is feeling the sizzle with sweltering temperatures prompting the National Weather Service to issue a heat advisory for the area. Residents are warned of heat index values reaching a scorching 110 degrees, making conditions ripe for heat-related illnesses. as per NWS.
The advisory, which remains in effect until 8 PM CDT this evening and resumes from noon to 8 PM CDT tomorrow, blankets a swath of Oklahoma and parts of northern Texas. "Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses," cautions the NWS advisory. Across central, east central, northern, northwest, southeast, southern, southwest, and western Oklahoma urbanites and farmers alike are feeling the heat.
Today, Oklahoma City saw a sunny sky with gusts up to 26 mph but that provided little respite with heat indexes soaring above 100 degrees. Residents sought shelter under the refuge of air-conditioning, while outside, the wind seemed only to amplify the day's dry furnace.
Looking ahead, the NWS forecasts continued blistering heat, with temperatures remaining in the high 90s into early next week. Monday night offers a glimmer of relief, a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, which might break the oppressive heat streak. "Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors," the NWS advisory firmly suggests.
