An incident that unfolded over the weekend in Orange County, Florida, has sparked discussions about law enforcement's response to emergency calls. According to ClickOrlando, a sheriff’s deputy has been placed on paid leave after they inadvertently shot the victim of an attempted home invasion.
The shooting occurred Saturday afternoon in the Pine Hills area, on Sheringham Road, just off Silver Star Road. A man residing at the home had reportedly discharged his weapon at four individuals trying to break in. Upon the deputies' arrival, as the man was unlocking his door for them, one deputy mistakenly fired their weapon. Neighbors relayed to ClickOrlando their apprehension regarding the event, with one stating, "It seems like they shoot first and ask questions later."
Both the Orange County Sheriff's office and a separate report by WESH confirm that the victim, a man in his 40s, was shot during the encounter with law enforcement and was later released from the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken on the task of reviewing the deputy's actions amidst this incident.
