An Orange County high school basketball coach has been taken into custody over allegations of grooming and engaging in a sexual relationship with a minor. KTLA reported that 44-year-old Michael Joseph Duran was arrested after a mandated reporter brought concerns to the attention of the Orange County Sheriff's Department’s Special Victims Detail (SVD).
The victim, a female student, claimed Duran, then an assistant basketball coach at Dana Hills High School, developed an inappropriate relationship with her spanning from 2024 to 2025. According to the details shared by the Orange County Sheriff's Department, the investigation began earlier this month after the allegations surfaced.
Duran was booked for oral copulation with a minor under the age of 18, as per the Orange County Sheriff's Department. His role as a coach both at the high school and with the SoCal Fins, a basketball club in San Juan Capistrano, has raised concerns that additional victims may exist. The authorities encourage anyone with information to come forward.
