
A man tragically lost his life on the southwest sidewalk of Oregon Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway, as detailed in a press release by the Long Beach Police Department, after an incident involving a semi-truck on Wednesday evening.
Long Beach officers rushed to the scene around 8:10 p.m. after reports of a person down, there they found an injured adult male believed to be hit by a vehicle the victim, who seemed to have been resting on the sidewalk, was urgently taken to a hospital by Long Beach Fire Department personnel, although he later succumbed to his injuries despite the efforts of paramedics and medical staff to save him, as reported by the Long Beach Police Department. The semi-truck involved, carrying a full trailer, had been turning onto Oregon Avenue from eastbound Pacific Coast Highway when its rear tires mounted the curb where the victim lay.
Detectives now leading the collision investigation found no evidence to suggest that speed, distraction, or impaired driving were factors in this unfortunate event. The search for the semi-truck driver continues, however, as the individual did not stay on scene following the accident.
The identification of the victim is pending as the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office works to alert the next of kin, there has been no public release of his identity at this time, as per the LBPD.
