The University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) is expanding its educational repertoire with the introduction of new faculty and staff members this upcoming fall. Among the latest additions, Peter Landgren stands out as a returning member of the CCM family. Landgren, having served his tenure as president of the University of Cincinnati Foundation and vice president of university advancement until his retirement in 2024, rejoins the institution where he previously held significant positions, according to the University of Cincinnati's announcement.
Landgren's history with the college traces back to his own academic grounding, being an alumnus of CCM. His professional journey saw him in the role of dean and Thomas James Kelly Professor of Music from 2011-16, and stepping into the shoes of UC's interim senior vice president for academic affairs and provost from 2016-17. In his latest role, he returns to a more direct form of education, teaching within CCM's Chamber Music, French Horn, and Arts Administration programs. As the music and academic communities anticipate this homecoming, his breadth of experiences is expected to resonate with a new generation of artists and administrators.
In the context of today's higher education climate, the integration of practical industry experience into the academic space is becoming increasingly crucial. Landgren's return to CCM doesn't merely signify an administrative shift, but reflects a broader movement within arts education. By enriching the curriculum with his years of professional insight, Landgren is set to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application – a value that is likely to enhance student preparedness for the rapidly evolving landscape of performing and media arts.
CCM remains a prominent institution for those pursuing careers in the performing and media arts. With the inclusion of new faculty like Landgren, the college reaffirms its dedicated pursuit of blending artistic excellence with pedagogical expertise. His appointment is not just a homecoming but represents the kind of full-circle journey that underscores the interconnectedness of education and profession within the arts community. Fall students at CCM will soon find themselves under the tutelage of a seasoned veteran who knows all too well the stages of academic life and the rigours of a career in the arts.
