A Philadelphia man has been handed a three-year prison sentence following an armed robbery at a city dollar store, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced. Khyrie Brown, a 25-year-old from Philadelphia, received the sentence from United States District Judge Gerald J. Pappert after pleading guilty to charges stemming from the November 2023 holdup.
According to court documents released by the U.S. Attorney's Office, Brown was part of a group of four that targeted the store located on the 2800 block of Ridge Avenue. The incident, which took place on November 6, involved a ploy where one individual feigned a purchase to engage the store clerk while an accomplice brandished what looked to be a handgun, demanding access to the safe. Brown, along with his associates, managed to steal around $3,000 in coins and currency before fleeing in a vehicle.
In an effort to re-establish a sense of justice, Brown is also required to pay full restitution and will undergo three years of supervised release subsequent to his incarceration. The Hobbs Act robbery charge indicates that the robbery had an impact on interstate commerce, which provided the grounds for federal jurisdiction. The case was brought to a close through the collaborative efforts of the Philadelphia Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, with Assistant United States Attorney Thomas M. Zaleski prosecuting.
The apprehension of Brown resulted from a quick response by Philadelphia police, who tracked the suspects to a vicinity near 30th and Gordon streets. A police K9 eventually found Brown hiding in an abandoned property on the 2300 block of North 30th Street.
