After a nearly three-year investigation into a tragic head-on crash that claimed the lives of a pregnant woman and her unborn baby, Phoenix authorities have made an arrest. Carl Squire, 51, was taken into custody on August 7, according to FOX 10 Phoenix.
The incident occurred on November 16, 2022, when Squire was reportedly driving at a dangerous speed along 24th Street and veered into oncoming traffic, causing the devastating crash. The collision resulted in the death of 22-year-old Ciarra Savedra-Hernandez, who was a passenger in Squire's vehicle. Court documents, as mentioned by Yahoo News, revealed that both Savedra-Hernandez and her three-months unborn child did not survive the crash. A passenger in the other vehicle involved sustained multiple fractures.
Further digging into the case uncovered unsettling details about the circumstances of the crash. Squire was allegedly under the influence of methamphetamine at the time of the accident. "Drug paraphernalia was found on driver-side floorboard and warrant was authored for blood samples," court documents detailed, noting that the samples tested positive for methamphetamine. The investigation also found that Squire was traveling at 58 mph in a zone marked for 35 mph.
Now facing serious charges, Squire is accused of second-degree murder and aggravated assault. He remains held on a substantial $500,000 bond. The next court date for him is set for August 14, signaling a new chapter in this long-unfolding legal saga, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix.
