As Sevier County schools gear up to welcome back students, the Pigeon Forge Police Department has issued a safety reminder for local motorists. A recent social media post states that the first school day is Friday, August 8. The Pigeon Forge Police Department urges the community to be extra vigilant as the kids return to their classrooms.
The Pigeon Forge Police are emphasizing the importance of stopping for school buses. By law, drivers must come to a complete stop when a school bus has its stop arm extended and lights flashing. Moreover, to avoid any confusion on the roads, the police department has provided a diagram that details precisely when motorists should stop. "Please be extra alert as our students return to the classroom," the police department advised in its post.
Back-to-school season typically means a spike in morning and afternoon traffic, as buses and parents rush to drop off and pick up their kids. The reminder also serves to protect bus drivers and students.
