A somber mood has settled over the Placer County community as law enforcement and citizens grapple with the aftermath of a stark violation in an otherwise peaceful locale. The Placer County Sheriff's Office disclosed details of an attempted rape that occurred at Dry Creek Park. The incident, which took place on Sunday, August 3, around 5:30 p.m., prompted immediate law enforcement response, but the urgency of the situation led to an unintended consequence—a traffic collision involving two deputies.
While rushing to the scene to assist and establish a perimeter for apprehending the suspect, a patrol vehicle carrying the deputies collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Baseline Road and Walerga Road. According to the Placer County Sheriff's Office's post, the two deputies involved sustained minor injuries, as did the other driver, and they are receiving treatment. The Roseville Police Department is investigating the collision.
In the midst of this chaotic pursuit of justice, deputies succeeded in their primary mission. They were able to locate and arrest the suspect in the attempted rape, who has been identified as 27-year-old Sergiy Fedchyk of Sacramento. However, the investigation is taking a disturbing turn as there is a potential for more victims to emerge. The Placer County Sheriff's Office has openly acknowledged as much, and they are now investigating whether Fedchyk may have assaulted others.
The detectives are calling for public assistance to piece together the events leading to, and possibly following, the altercation along Dry Creek Trail. A statement via Placer County Sheriff's Office's social media urges anyone "If you witnessed the incident, recently encountered the suspect in the area, or believe you may be a victim," to reach out to their Investigations Tip Line at (530) 889-7830. Additionally, they are seeking any video footage from the area between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on the day of the incident that could potentially aid in the ongoing investigation.
