
Authorities are on the hunt for a person of interest following an unarmed attempted carjacking in Northwest Washington, D.C., which left one victim injured. The incident occurred on Sunday, when suspects confronted two individuals next to their vehicle on the 1400 block of Swann Street.
The situation escalated as the suspects demanded the car and proceeded to attack one of the victims. A Metropolitan Police Department cruiser's timely arrival at the scene caused the suspects to scatter. However, two juveniles, a male and a female, both 15, from Hyattsville, MD, were apprehended and are now facing charges. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, one of the victims received on-site treatment by DC Fire and EMS for injuries acquired during the assault.
The case has garnered the attention of MPD's Carjacking Taskforce, which includes MPD detectives paired with agents from the FBI Washington Field Office. While two suspects are in custody, the search for additional suspects continues, and the police ask for the public's assistance. MPD urges anyone with relevant information to come forward, reminding citizens not to engage but to contact the police directly.
The department offers a substantial incentive for cooperation, with rewards of up to $10,000 for tips leading to an arrest and conviction in this violent crime. "The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a violent crime committed in the District of Columbia," the Metropolitan Police Department stated.
