In a recent incident close to a Bronx church, police are on the lookout for two suspects linked to a shooting that occurred last night. As reported by ABC7NY, the suspects fled the scene at Marion Avenue using mopeds. One individual was attired in black, the other in gray.
The altercation led to two individuals being shot and a third one suffering a minor injury, police said the event unfolded near a candlelight vigil. A 17-year-old boy was struck in the thigh and ankle, and a 20-year-old man received a bullet to the knee. Both were conveyed to St. Barnabas Hospital, with their conditions noted as stable. Furthermore, a 28-year-old man was grazed on the back of his head, he was treated on-site. As of now no arrests have been made and the specific details surrounding the shooting remain unclear.
AMNY adds that this incident took place a day subsequent to Mayor Eric Adams' announcement to augment police force by 1,000 officers in the Bronx to cope with the surge in gun violence. Roughly translated into increased patrols and the presence of violence interrupters, this measure is intended to address the recent rise in violent incidents.
The 52nd Precinct, where the latest shooting took place, has recorded a decrease in shootings this year. Year-to-date figures show a 37.5% decline, from 16 incidents at this point in 2024 to 10 this year.
