A man has been indicted by a Multnomah County Grand Jury on a slew of charges tied to a series of burglaries in Southwest Portland's Multnomah Village. The 46-year-old Joseph Patrick Doherty is facing 22 charges after being connected to burglaries that occurred in June and July 2025. The charges include Burglary in the First and Second Degree, Theft in the First and Second Degree, and Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, as reported by the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office.
The indictment, which was handed down on July 25, 2025, placed Doherty in court for arraignment five days later. Evidence from video surveillance appears to show Doherty breaking into multiple storage units at the Public Storage facility on Southwest Barbur Boulevard and businesses within Multnomah Village. Among the businesses targeted were Consign Couture, Merav Beautique, and Little Shop of Drawers. In total, Doherty is accused of stealing over $30,000 in goods, including more than $10,000 from the storage units, more than $5,000 in clothing from Consign Couture, and $15,000 in jewelry from Little Shop of Drawers.
Following a warrant served on Doherty's residence by the Portland Police Bureau Central Neighborhood Response Team ("Central NRT"), officers recovered several of the stolen items. According to a statement from the District Attorney's Office, these items included clothing and jewelry from the aforementioned businesses. Doherty has been placed in custody, with bail set at $50,000.
In a strong statement featured by the District Attorney's Office, District Attorney Nathan Vasquez emphasized accountability. He said, "Criminals who target our small businesses will be prosecuted and held accountable. These crimes are unacceptable and represent not just a crime against those businesses but also an attack on the fabric of our community." At present, it is important to note that all defendants, including Doherty, are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
