Concerns over food safety have increased as multiple companies announced recalls of frozen shrimp products potentially contaminated with radioactive material. Action News Jax reports that Jacksonville-based Beaver Street Fisheries is voluntarily recalling its Great Value frozen raw shrimp sold at Walmart. This expands an earlier recall of the same product line, with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) citing radioactive contaminants as the reason.

First Coast News notes that the FDA recall was issued after the detection of Cesium-137, a man-made isotope, in shipping containers and certain frozen shrimp products. U.S. Customs and Border Protection first identified the issue, leading to further testing that confirmed radiation in sampled products. The recalled shrimp, processed by Indonesian company PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati, was distributed to 13 states between July 28 and August 7. Consumers are advised to dispose of the products immediately.

Powder Bulk Solids reports that Southwind Foods LLC of Carson, California, has also recalled frozen shrimp due to potential Cesium-137 contamination. The affected brands include Sand Bar, Arctic Shores, Best Yet, Great American, and First Street, distributed in states including AL, AZ, CA, MA, MN, PA, UT, VA, and WA. This recall covers products shipped between July 17 and August 8, with retailers, distributors, and wholesalers instructed to remove the items from circulation.
