In an effort to engage with the community and showcase advances in law enforcement technology, Rancho Cordova Police Department's POP Officer Gordon recently held a "show and tell" session. This event catered to young members of the local community, putting the spotlight on the department's deployment of drones—or Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)—in their operations. A social media post from the RCPD detailed Officer Gordon's presentation and the role of drones in enhancing public safety.

Officer Gordon, part of the SSO SCOUT Team, is one of several FAA-certified UAS pilots. According to the department, SCOUT team members are strategically positioned across all SSO Divisions and Rancho Cordova. They are prepared to respond promptly to incidents within the city limits and throughout Sacramento County when their skills are required. The team’s equipment includes a variety of drones of different sizes, allowing them to handle a wide range of situations.

The RCPD emphasizes how UAS devices serve as significant force multipliers—allowing law enforcement to achieve more with less. Efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and safety were highlighted as key benefits. According to the RCPD’s social media update, these tools help maintain "observation of potentially armed suspects" in a way that reduces risk to personnel and supports the goal of increased officer safety.

RCPD’s adoption of advanced technology aligns with a broader trend and supports their focus on public safety. The department noted their efforts to maintain current technological capabilities. These capabilities include aerial support used in searches for missing persons, suspects, and victims, as well as in risk management during high-risk operations and crime scene reconstruction.
