The City of Reno, in collaboration with the Downtown Reno Partnership (DRP), has just rolled out its newest member of the recreational scene: a Rolling Recreation trailer aimed at drawing locals and tourists into the downtown area with free programming. This community engagement tool was introduced during an event at Locomotion Plaza and is part of a broader effort to enhance the vibrancy and safety of downtown Reno. The initiative was announced by the City of Reno yesterday, August 11.
Not only bringing recreation to the streets, the latest Rolling Recreation addition has captured the attention of the Nevada Recreation and Park Society (NRPS), snagging a Program Excellence Award for its effective role in crime reduction and fostering neighborhood connections. Welcoming the new trailer, Vice Mayor Taylor said, “Rolling Recreation is a creative and effective way to bring people together and make our Biggest Little City even more vibrant,” as detailed in the City of Reno's official statement.
Funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), the co-branded trailer sports a bold wrap and is supported by a three-year sponsorship deal with the DRP. This investment promises to double the number of activations to 40 per year by 2026 and 2027, showing the commitment to recreational accessibility and the support of local businesses. As the City of Reno laid out, the trailer's schedule includes stops at Glow Plaza on Mondays, Locomotion Plaza on Tuesdays, Evans Park on Wednesdays and Sundays, West Street Plaza on Thursdays, and Greater Nevada Field or Evans Park on Sundays depending on the Aces' schedule.
In a move contributing to the downtown Reno Business Improvement District (BID), the trailer activation will span an array of public and private spaces. Executive Director of the Downtown Reno Partnership Neoma Jardon told the City of Reno, “By supporting Rolling Recreation, we’re bringing positive energy into our downtown spaces, helping local businesses thrive, and giving people more reasons to explore and enjoy all that downtown has to offer.” According to the City of Reno's announcement, the trailer's presence is intended to draw more people downtown and bolster the local economy by offering a variety of free activities including fitness classes, art projects, and games.
