
A tragic event unfolded on I-75 when a woman lost her life after being hit by a car. The Florida Highway Patrol announced that a 27-year-old Riverview woman was the victim of the fatal accident which occurred near Gibsonton on the southbound lanes, as reported by WFLA.
The incident, which took place around 12:30 a.m., involved the woman standing near her disabled Nissan Altima before she walked into the path of a Kia Sportage. The details of the crash were shared by FOX 13, who indicated that the collision was unavoidable and resulted in the woman's immediate death at the scene.
Troopers were quickly dispatched to the area north of Big Bend Rd. in Riverview, where the incident sharply unfolded in the dark early hours of the morning. Investigation of the crash is underway, with efforts to understand what precisely occurred that led to this unfortunate outcome.
A 25-year-old Sarasota woman was driving the Kia Sportage that struck the woman. According to information provided by Tampa Free Press, the driver of the Kia was not able to avoid striking the pedestrian who had entered her path. Emergency responders arrived at the scene promptly but were unable to save the pedestrian's life. The driver of the Kia, per the same report, did not sustain injuries in the collision.
The Florida Highway Patrol has not released additional details about the crash at this time.
