Violence erupted at Amberg Park on Tuesday, as a robbery turned into a shootout leaving three men wounded. According to St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, around 5:30 p.m., a man in his 30s was approached by two male assailants who demanded his backpack at gunpoint; however, the intended victim, who was also armed, retaliated by opening fire on the suspects following the theft.
The victim, despite being shot in the leg during the exchange, managed to wound both suspects who fled the scene—in their flight they were heard yelling, suggesting that they had been hit, which was later confirmed when they arrived at a local hospital suffering from gunshot wounds to their lower extremities. While investigations unfolded at the park, the same hospital alerted authorities to the arrival of two men whose injuries were consistent with the shootout and, through detective work, the suspects were linked to the robbery after two firearms and the victim’s backpack were discovered in their vehicle.
Both individuals are now in custody and stable condition; charges against them are pending. The unnamed victim was also hospitalized; his condition has been described as stable.
