Rockdale County has secured a robust federal funding package, rounding up nearly $2.6 million to boost transportation, outdoor, and senior programs. Congressman David Scott and Senator Jon Ossoff have been pivotal, advocating for these funds that are set to improve the lives of Rockdale residents in tangible ways. According to a release by Rockdale County's official website, these appropriations are a part of the FY26 budget cycle and stand to mark a significant stride in local development endeavors.
In the details that were outlined, two projects had the backing of Congressman Scott and were successfully added to the House Appropriations Committee bill. These consist of an allocation of $165,200 to the Rockdale Veterans Transportation Program for vehicle acquisition and $500,000 for enhancements to the Rockdale River Trail. On a separate note, Senator Ossoff managed to include an additional $1,900,000 in the Senate Appropriations Committee's Transportation, Housing and Urban Development proposal for the Senior Center Satellite Project. These funds signal our local leadership's commitment to not only maintain but earnestly to expand the services and amenities accessible to the community.
Rockdale County Chair JaNice Van Ness communicated pride in these developments, stating on Rockdale County's official website, "These investments reflect our continued commitment to improving quality of life for Rockdale residents," as she underscored the breadth of benefits ranging from aiding veterans, facilitating outdoor enjoyment, and catering to the elderly. "We are deeply grateful to Congressman Scott and Senator Ossoff for their steadfast leadership and advocacy for Rockdale County," Van Ness told the public in an official announcement.
Each project addresses a specific area of community need. The Veterans Transportation Program aims to acquire additional vehicles, ensuring that veterans have the means to reliably reach medical appointments and critical services. The trail improvements promise not only to refine recreational infrastructure but also to enhance safe access to Rockdale's green spaces. Lastly, the Senior Center Satellite Project focuses on accommodating the county's booming senior population with expanded services tailored to their needs. As Sue Sanders, Rockdale County's Chief of Operations, stated on Rockdale County's official website, "This level of support reflects real progress toward a healthier, more connected, and more inclusive Rockdale."
While the funds marked a promising breakthrough, the federal budget still requires the formal assent of both congressional houses and the President's signature before the pecuniary infusion can flow into county projects. Rockdale County officials will keenly watch the progress of the FY26 federal appropriations bills and are committed to keeping the community apprised as the process forges ahead.
