Residents of Rocklin and nearby areas are enduring an old plague in the form of a sharp rise in wheel and tire thefts. According to a social media post from the Rocklin Police Department, the latest trend sees thieves predominantly focused on newer-model Toyotas and Hondas. The Camry with its sport trim rims is especially at risk, but Corollas, along with newer-model Honda Civics and Accords, have also fallen prey to these crimes.
In an attempt to combat this wave of thefts, Rocklin Police have advised residents to take preventive measures. Utilizing wheel locks can serve as a deterrent, and individuals are encouraged to park in well-lit areas or secure their vehicles in private garages if they have the means. While this issue is nothing novel, and certainly not confined to Rocklin, local authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant. Should one become a victim of such theft, they are to contact the Police Department on the non-emergency number to file a report.
Thieves appear to be striking with a preference for the cover of night, often targeting vehicles left in apartment complex parking lots. Rocklin's police force has cautioned that the pattern is regional, suggesting a coordinated effort among criminals beyond their jurisdiction. In light of this, they are calling on the community to report any suspicious activity immediately.
