Georgia Sen. Chuck Hufstetler of Rome has been selected to receive the Legislator of the Year Award at the upcoming Georgia Life Sciences Summit. The honor, part of the Golden Helix Awards, recognizes lawmakers who have made significant contributions in support of the state’s life sciences industry.
The Legislator of the Year Award from Georgia Life Sciences is more than just an honor—it highlights a lawmaker’s dedication to advancing policies that strengthen research, innovation, and growth in the life sciences sector. Senator Hufstetler, in particular, is no stranger to the life sciences arena, with a career that marries experience in the medical field with legislative prowess. “I am honored to be recognized by Georgia Life Sciences this year. Whether in the operating room or chairing the Senate Committee on Finance, I see firsthand how science impacts Georgians daily,” Hufstetler stated in a release picked up by Senate Press. He continued, “Each legislative session, I lean on my experience as a legislator and medical professional to advocate for Georgians and promote our life sciences community. Today, more than ever, this community is a driving force for better health outcomes, which build a stronger economy and way of life for future generations.”
The Golden Helix Awards are set to take place on August 26 at the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center, where other leaders and innovators in the field will also be recognized. This year, the spotlight will be on Hufstetler, whose unique background sets him apart. His academic journey ranges from a degree in baking science to a career in anesthesiology.
Sen. Hufstetler’s work goes beyond academics, making a real difference in Georgia’s health care and economy. With both medical training and legislative experience, he is respected in the Senate and in the science and policy community. His education includes a Baking Science and Technology certification, a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Psychology from the University of Georgia, and a master’s in Medical Science in Anesthesiology from Emory University, as mentioned by Senate Press.
