Round Rock Public Library invites artists of all ages to participate in its 4th annual Paint Your Pet Art Show, a charming event where community members can showcase their creative talents through pet portraits. Submissions are accepted from now until September 15, as per information available on the City of Round Rock's website. This inclusive event requires no library card and welcomes art created on any canvas or paper smaller than 8.5 x 11.
With an open call for submissions, the library becomes a canvas for expression, allowing locals to render their furry, scaled, or feathered friends using various materials, including watercolor, paint, pencil, and crayon. One can simply, as the guidelines suggest, "Create your pet portraits!" Displayed in the first-floor exhibit area from September 2 – October 14, the art will be visible from Liberty Avenue, adding a dash of personal touch to the public space. Holding the exhibition, the library fosters a connection - embracing a pet's companionship with its visual celebration.
For those preferring a digital display, the library also offers an online art show. All physical submissions automatically gain a virtual presence, and exclusively online artworks can be submitted via email to [email protected]. This dual approach to showcasing art ensures no one is left out and every pet, real or imagined, gets its moment in the spotlight. With just a first name, age, and pet's name marked clearly on the back, participants' artwork embarks on a journey beyond the confines of the home to the heart of the community.
Completing the circle, artists must collect their in-person portrayals between October 16 and November 17. Leaving these personal tributes behind unintentionally would strip a piece of the library’s temporary menagerie. But up until that moment of retrieval, the people, the pets, and the pages within Round Rock's library blend, creating a mosaic where the soul of the community is captured in brush strokes and pencil lines. A mosaic where the stories of companionship are told in hues and shades, visible to all who wander in.
