Last Tuesday, August 12, a Sacramento couple received their sentences for the horrific abuse and eventual death of a 5-year-old boy.
Jason Chitnis, found guilty of first-degree murder and assault on a child, received a life sentence, with a minimum of 25 years to be served before eligibility for parole. Having been convicted on June 11th for the crimes committed while caring for his then-girlfriend’s son, details from the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office reveal the severity of his actions, including the infliction of fractures and a deadly traumatic brain injury on the young child.
Dyamond Hudson, the boy’s mother, was sentenced to 12 years and 8 months after her May 22nd guilty plea acknowledging child endangerment and the willful infliction of corporal punishment. Despite being aware of the abuse at the hands of Chitnis, she continued to leave her child in his care until the tragic culmination on August 3, 2021. The sentencing judge, the Honorable Maryanne Gilliard, handed down the sentences earlier this week.
The details of the case, which surfaced during trial, paint a grim picture of prolonged suffering for the young child. Left in Chitnis’s care while Hudson worked, the child endured physical abuse leading to multiple bone fractures and internal injuries, notably a perforated large intestine that made eating a struggle. On that fateful day, Judge Maryanne Gilliard sentenced Jason Chitnis and Dyamond Hudson after an assault that resulted in the child’s fatal traumatic brain injury, according to the report shared via the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office.
