In a recent public announcement, the City of Sacramento revealed its weekly report on the efforts to manage the city's homeless situation. Notably, within the period of July 21-27, there were 812 calls made to the city's 311 customer service regarding concerns about unsheltered individuals. The City's Incident Management Team (IMT), tasked to rapidly respond to these calls, reported having closed 1,163 calls during the same week. This closure indicates issues were either resolved, compliance was reached, or the problem was no longer present upon inspection by City staff.
According to the Sacramento City Express, the Department of Community Response, aligned with the city's initiative, has reported that it has enrolled 55 people into databases designed to match them with shelters and other necessary resources. Additionally, the IMT managed to place 18 people into designated support facilities such as the Roseville Road campus or the Outreach and Engagement Center (OEC). However, as of July 29, available spaces were scarce, with only one Pallet home and no trailers left at the Roseville Road campus and six openings at the OEC. The city-run shelters, excluding these two facilities, had an average of 13 available spaces.
Another element of the city's response to homelessness involves addressing sanitation issues. It was documented that the city has cleaned up an impressive 75,960 pounds of trash during the reported week. The enormity of this effort showcases the city's commitment to not only assisting the unsheltered population but also to maintaining public health and safety standards for all citizens.
This comprehensive approach by Sacramento is further tracked with their public data dashboard, which records the progress made by the IMT, searchable by each week going back as far as September 2023.
