Village Express Donuts in Sacramento’s Tahoe Park was broken into on Thursday, marking its fourth break-in in less than two years. Two burglars smashed the front window, tried to steal the ATM, and took the cash register, causing over $1,000 in losses, according to FOX40. The burglary was caught on security cameras. Owner Mr. Lee reopened the shop, saying, "Come to work at 4:30 every day… when I saw my door broken, I thought, 'Oh my God, they break my door again.'" A GoFundMe page has been created to support the business.
KCRA reported that Village Express Donuts has faced multiple break-ins, along with other small businesses in the area experiencing theft and vandalism. "No one can stop it," Mr. Lee said, describing the ongoing difficulties these incidents cause for his business.
Isaac Gonzalez, president of the Tahoe Park Neighborhood Association, commented on the repeated burglaries at Village Express Donuts, saying, "Small business owners are doing everything to make ends meet. The property owner needs to invest in safety the way these shop owners invest in this community,” as mentioned by FOX40. He noted Mr. Lee’s community contributions, like giving free donut holes to children. The shop’s window is planned to be replaced this weekend, and Mr. Lee continues to serve his customers.
