A tragic incident unfolded on the Molalla River near Canby Community Park when a man drowned while swimming last Sunday evening. According to a report from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred around 7:40 p.m., which led to an immediate response from the Clackamas County Water Rescue Consortium and emergency crews from the Canby Police and Canby Fire departments.

Despite the rapid deployment of rescue efforts, the victim, identified as 24-year-old Enrique Hernandez-Hernandez of Salem, was submerged for several minutes before being pulled from the water by fellow swimmers at the park; he was transported to the river's south bank where lifesaving measures were attempted by emergency personnel, but their efforts were in vain - Hernandez-Hernandez sadly did not survive the ordeal. The complex location made it necessary for the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team, comprised of deputies and community volunteers with specialized training, to be mobilized in order to help recover the victim.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team is part of a broader consortium dedicated to water rescues, which includes the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Clackamas Fire, the Lake Oswego Fire Department, and Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue.
