In a sobering reminder that law enforcement officers are not immune to the laws they enforce, an 18-year veteran of the San Antonio Police Department found himself on the other side of the law. Officer David McCall self-surrendered to the Bexar County Booking and Release Satellite Office after an arrest warrant was issued for his involvement in an off-duty vehicular incident while under the influence, as reported by the San Antonio Government website. The incident, which occurred on August 5th, involved a vehicle crash in the 3400 block of Coryell Cove and led to the San Antonio Police Department launching an administrative review into McCall's conduct.
The details of the crash are currently under investigation by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, which responded to the scene. In the days to rapidly follow, we've learned that McCall has been placed on administrative duty, which frequently serves as a holding pattern while a department determines the fate of an officer's career post-incident. Questions about the criminal proceedings are being deferred to BCSO.
