The San Antonio Fire Department (SAFD) is making headway on constructing two new fire stations in the city, aiming to boost service and safety for local residents. The developments on Fire Stations 52 and 53 are set to replace their current, smaller counterparts, providing expanded facilities to accommodate growing needs in their communities. Fire Chief Valerie Frausto weighed in on the update, stating, "These new state-of-the-art facilities will not only expand capacity to support additional resources, but also reinforce SAFD’s deep commitment to the city we serve," according to a statement obtained by the City of San Antonio Public Works Department.
The project, backed by $17.6 million in Certificates of Obligation, promises to thoroughly revamp the emergency response infrastructure in these areas. Pinned to be completed by Fall 2026, the new Fire Station 52 and 53 buildings will feature necessary additions, including a brand new 12,000-square-foot apparatus bay and an EMS bay. They're designed to accommodate a USDD Fire Alert System, create conducive living and work spaces for responders, and ensure they have access to emergency power when needed. The City of San Antonio has designated $9.85 million for Fire Station 52, situated at 10440 Quintana Road, and $7.74 million for Fire Station 53, located at 14102 Donop Road, as detailed in the City of San Antonio website.
Alamo Architects and CGC General Contractors have teamed up to bring these stations to life, which also include upgrades such as improved parking facilities and aesthetic landscaping. With these enhancements, the SAFD's capacity to manage emergencies will be significantly bolstered, allowing for a quicker and more efficient response to fires and other incidents, as per the City of San Antonio.
