San Diego residents can expect a bit of a temperature rollercoaster over the next week, according to the National Weather Service San Diego. Today's forecast suggests slight cooling in the area, with coastal temperatures ranging from 72 to 79 degrees, while inland valleys might see highs between 85 and 95 degrees. Temperatures in the high desert are expected to heat up to 96 to 102 degrees, while those braving the low desert can anticipate scorching highs between 107 and 111 degrees, as reported by NWS San Diego.
As we head into the weekend, the marine layer is deepening, bringing in cooler air and the potential for patchy early morning drizzle on Friday and Saturday. Inland dwellers will experience a notable temperature dip; the National Weather Service says we're looking at "Saturday high temperatures as much as 8 to 12 degrees below average for the valleys." By Thursday next week, inland areas could see the mercury nudging around 5 degrees above average, with possible high temperatures ranging from the 70s near the coast to 110 to 115 for the lower deserts.
For those planning a beach day, be cautious, as elevated surf and high rip current risks will affect southwest-facing beaches through Thursday. "Surf of 3 to 5 feet, with sets to 6 feet, are expected through Thursday, with surf lowering 2 to 4 feet by Friday," NWS San Diego advised. Safety should be a priority, and beachgoers are advised to consult with local lifeguards regarding the strong rip currents that could persist into Friday.
