The weather outlook for San Diego County brings a mixed bag of conditions for the upcoming week, according to the National Weather Service San Diego. Coastal areas will experience slightly cooler temperatures today, though further inland, things are expected to heat up a bit more than yesterday. On Sunday and Monday, forecasters anticipate a daytime temperature uptick, with highs most prominently rising above the seasonal norm by Monday afternoon, particularly inland.
In a more detailed Area Forecast Discussion released by the National Weather Service San Diego, the prediction includes "Warm and dry under sunny skies through the weekend," with a shift early next week when "Monsoonal moisture will increase again for Tuesday through the end of next week." With the changes ahead, San Diego's mountains and deserts might see some stormy developments, while other areas should brace for temperatures up to 5 degrees above the usual.
Taking a closer look, a weakened ridge hovers over the western U.S., which has been a recipe for the recent spell of warmer weather. As this pattern persists, there might be "a very slight chance of an isolated shower, and possible storm, exists over the highest elevations," the forecast discussion notes. However, the coast and most other locations can bank on clear and dry conditions.
From Monday to the end of the week, the forecast discusses an intensifying ridge over the Great Basin, ramping up heat, particularly in the Inland Empire. The weather services suggest, "Possibly as early as Monday, and with growing confidence to be more likely on Tuesday, will there be the need for heat-related products issued for the inland valleys, and maybe even within the lower deserts?" As the week progresses, the weakening ridge might usher in some cooling relief alongside renewed monsoonal moisture, potentially also influenced by a tropical disturbance that models are showing to form.
For travelers and locals alike, VFR conditions are expected to persist through Saturday, with "Very patchy coastal low clouds based around 800-1000 feet MSL 10-16Z Saturday along the SD County coast," per the aviation outlook. Mariners can easily sail, too, as "No hazardous marine conditions are expected through Wednesday." But beachgoers, take heed: the NWS has a Beach Hazards Statement in place from early this morning until Monday evening for potential dangerous swimming conditions in the Orange and San Diego County coastal areas.
