Last night, a dramatic rescue unfolded as the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) sprang into action to save an individual who had fallen off a cliff in the city. The accident occurred near the intersection of Sansome and Union streets, where the person plummeted approximately 50 feet. The rescue operation, executed precisely by the SFFD, was crucial in ensuring the victim’s survival.
A report by the SFFD highlighted the involved members' high degree of coordination. Truck 13 deployed its aerial ladder to navigate the steep hillside, which was shrouded by dense brush, approaching the fallen individual treacherously. Trapped on the incline, the victim waited for rescue as responders worked against the landscape's natural obstacles to reach them.
The firefighters and paramedics expertly maneuvered to secure and transport the patient via stretcher back up the aerial ladder. Once the victim was safely back on level ground, an SFFD Emergency Medical Services (EMS) ambulance was on site, ready to rush the individual to a trauma center. Despite serious injuries incurred from the fall, the fire department reported that they injuries were non-life-threatening.
According to a post from the San Francisco Fire Department Media, "The victim was then taken to the trauma center with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries."
