In a startling incident of deceit and exploitation, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputies apprehended Yu Xiaolang on charges of theft by pretense. The arrest occurred on the 4000 Block of Lugo Avenue in Chino Hills, where the 38-year-old suspect from San Gabriel was caught attempting to solicit additional funds from his victim.
The deceptive saga began on July 17 when the suspect contacted the victim pretending to be a customer service agent from an imaginary company. This ruse led the victim to believe she was responsible for covering over $100,000.00 in fraudulent charges on an account, which she then paid to Xiaolang. In a statement obtained by Nixle, authorities detailed how the suspect was booked at West Valley Detention Center following his capture on July 28.
The precise location of capture was the residence of the victim, a stark reminder of the brazenness that sometimes accompanies such criminal charades. Representatives of the Chino Hills Police Department have urged anyone with information related to this incident to reach out via their direct line at (909) 364-2000 or to remain anonymous by contacting the We-Tip Hotline at 1-800-78CRIME (27463). Details can also be discreetly shared through the We-Tip website at www.wetip.com.
