San Jose police have taken a man into custody in connection with the death of his infant child in 2024. Julian Taylor, 27, was arrested in Palmdale by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's gang surveillance unit and San Jose police detectives on Monday, after a comprehensive investigation linked him to the tragic incident, according to CBS Los Angeles.
The investigation was set in motion following reports of a 5-month-old infant discovered not breathing in San Jose back on November 3, 2024, police said and medics rushed the baby to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but despite their efforts, the child succumbed to the injuries six days later and this tragic outcome marked San Jose's 29th homicide for the year. Months later, it was confirmed by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner's Office that the infant's cause of death included multiple traumatic injuries, ruling it a homicide, the San Jose Police Department reported.
Once Taylor was designated as a potential suspect, detectives, with the assistance of the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office, acquired an arrest warrant for the father on July 28. After the arrest, Taylor was extradited to San Jose and has been charged with child abuse resulting in death. Currently, he is being held without bail at the Santa Clara County Main Jail, as detailed by the San Jose Police Department.
