The San José Police Department (SJPD) has recently taken into custody the final suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred earlier in April on Sunset Court. As reported by SJPD's news release, on Monday, 25-year-old Kevin Le, a San José resident, was apprehended in Colorado by the U.S. Marshals Service. This arrest comes after an intensive multistate search for the suspect, who is linked to the city's 6th homicide of the year.
This breakthrough in the case follows an April 1st incident where patrol officers responded to reports of a gunshot victim at a residence on the 90 block of Sunset Court. Upon their arrival around 3:57 AM, officers discovered an adult male with at least one gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts from medical personnel, the victim later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. Le had fled the scene before authorities arrived and had remained at large.
During the arrest, SJPD Detectives identified five suspects, including Le, whose information was released to the public via social media in hopes of receiving tips. Hoodline cites that the other four suspects were placed into custody shortly after the investigation, with Le as the sole individual evading capture until now.
Sergeant Van Den Broeck and Detective Estantino of SJPD’s Homicide Unit led the investigation into the case, and according to the San José Police, community engagement was essential to locate Le. With the help of a tip indicating his presence in Colorado, the SJPD coordinated with the U.S. Marshals Service to ensure his arrest. Le is set to be extradited to San José, where he will be booked for murder at the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
While the case sees an essential suspect apprehended, the investigation continues, and SJPD encourages anyone with information regarding the case to step forward.
