Mark your calendars for a day of island vibes right here in Seattle. The Live Aloha Hawaiian Cultural Festival is bringing the essence of Hawai'i to the Pacific Northwest on Sunday, September 7. This cultural celebration is set to take place at the Seattle Center Armory Food & Event Hall, Mural Amphitheatre, and Fisher Pavilion Rooftop from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to Center Spotlight.
Free and family-friendly, the event joins the lineup of the Seattle Center Festál's cultural festivals, boasting over 70 vendors offering authentic Hawaiian cuisine and products like jewelry, clothing, and island-inspired home décor. Notable food vendors will include the likes of Pac Island Grill and Sam Choy’s Poke to the Max, vibrant community booths such as Happy Wahine, and presentations from organizations including Bishop Museum, Hawaiian Diaspora, and MANAOLA Hawaiʻi.
Highlights from the festival program feature performances from local musicians and dance groups, hula workshops, and presentations aimed at sharing the traditions and practices of Hawai'i. A special zone for kids, Keiki Korner, will concentrate on activities centered around Native Hawaiian culture. As reported by Center Spotlight, the festival's headlining act is none other than Kamalei Kawaʻa, a Grammy-nominated artist and Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winner.
"We’re thrilled to host the Live Aloha Hawaiian Cultural Festival at Seattle Center each year," said Heidi Jackson, the managing artistic director of cultural programs at Seattle Center, in a statement obtained by Center Spotlight. She underscored the festival's role in celebrating Native Hawaiian culture, and its significance for the Kānaka Maoli community in Washington. Dancing, music, and a slice of island life await festivalgoers on the first Sunday of September.
For further context, Live Aloha Hawaiian Cultural Festival aims to be a "home away from home" for the region's Native Hawaiian population, which numbers over 70,000. Alongside, Seattle Center, a 74-acre hub of arts and culture, is involved with 25 free cultural festivals each year, providing an opportunity for the Pacific Northwest community to connect with various cultural heritages and identities. With its vast array of partner organizations and annual events, Seattle Center has become the premier destination for cultural experiences in the region. The center is expected to generate significant economic impact, supporting jobs and contributing billions to the regional economy, as stated by Center Spotlight.
