Yesterday morning, Seattle witnessed another episode of violence as detectives from the Seattle Police Department began an investigation into a South Seattle homicide. The incident, which took place around 4:10 a.m. at the intersection of 1st Avenue South and South Dakota Street, resulted in two individuals being shot and prompted a swift response from patrol officers who discovered a juvenile with a gunshot wound to his leg, and a man suffering from a chest wound. The Seattle Police Blotter reports that the officers provided first aid to the victims before Seattle Fire Department personnel arrived on scene.
Both shooting victims were transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition. Doctors attempted to save the injured male but were ultimately unsuccessful; he was pronounced dead at the hospital. However, the juvenile's injuries are not expected to be fatal. An involved man was taken to Seattle Police Headquarters for questioning by homicide detectives. As part of the inquiry, officers secured the area, and both the Homicide and Crime Scene Investigation Units were called to process the scene.
Officers at the scene recovered firearms, though the circumstances leading to the gunfire remain unclear. As the investigation moves forward, Seattle police are appealing for public assistance. Anyone with information is urged to contact the SPD Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000. The identity of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of next of kin. Additional details are expected as detectives continue to piece together the events of yesterday morning.
