Seattle homicide detectives are in the midst of an investigation following a deadly shooting in the University District, SPD officials confirm. The incident occurred on the 4700 block of 17th Avenue Northeast, where, at approximately 7:10 p.m. on Friday, police andthe Seattle Fire Department responded to a reported shooting and discovered a 28-year-old man with a gunshot wound, as announced on the Seattle Police Department's blotter.
Efforts to save the man's life were ultimately unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. An alleged perpetrator is said to have fled prior to police arrival in a white Hyundai Elantra, details that were relayed by witnesses. The vehicle is noted for its black wheels and a damaged front passenger window. SPD urges that if anyone spots the car, do not approach it; "the occupant(s) should be considered armed and dangerous." Instead, the public is enjoined to call 911 with information to aid the investigation.
This homicide marks the city's 23rd this year – a stark number when juxtaposed against the 31 at the same juncture in the previous year. Seattle Police Chief Shon F. Barnes stated, "It is critical for us to resolve this case."
