Senator Ruben Gallego announced funding in the Senate’s FY 2026 MilCon-VA Appropriations bill for Arizona military facilities and veterans. The bill includes $22 million for a new Child Development Center at Luke Air Force Base, $171 million for State Extended Care Facilities, and over $3.4 billion for housing and support services to prevent veteran homelessness, according to the Office of the Senator.
The bill includes $49 million for the 492nd Power Projection Wing’s communications headquarters and $125 million for a new hangar and maintenance facility at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. It also provides $3.6 billion for suicide prevention programs and $698 million for outreach, with plans to strengthen the Veterans Crisis Line, expand local suicide prevention partnerships, and improve firearm safety. In addition, the bill funds modernization of health data and imaging systems across the VA, Department of Defense, and tribal health systems, and promotes telehealth services for rural and Native American veterans, as reported by the Office of the Senator.
The MilCon-VA funding bill includes provisions for research into non-addictive opioid alternatives, evaluation of medical marijuana for chronic pain management, and significant funding for the Toxic Exposures Fund under the PACT Act. It also seeks to simplify access to survivor benefits for veterans’ spouses. Now moving through the Senate’s full funding process, Senator Ruben Gallego stated, “I’ll keep working to make sure this bill becomes law and that these investments make it back home to Arizona,” as mentioned by the Office of the Senator.
